Surgery Opening Hours

The health centre is open Monday - Friday 8.00am - 6.30pm. Please note that a doctor is not always on the premises during the above times.

Doctors' sessions are available every morning 8.30 - 11.00am and each afternoon 3.00 - 6.00pm.

Appointments with the doctors and nurses, and for the various clinics must be booked at reception or by telephoning 0845 054 00 22. If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know so that someone else can be seen instead.

Practice History

Historically Bacup was an industrial town which specialized in the cotton and slipper industries. After years of recession, new industries are developing within the town. The practice is based on the former site of one of these mills, 'Irwell Mill', in a spacious and modern health centre in the centre of Bacup on Rochdale Road.
Due to the retirement of two local GPs, the existing Bacup and Stacksteads practices decided to merge and form one practice to provide services to all the patients.

Dr Cormack, formally of Todmorden Health Centre, joined the merged practices at that time. Irwell Medical Practice was officially formed on 1st April 2005.
